STERM is member of the Confederation of Teaching Trade Unions united by a common history, through a solidarity project, a common trade union model summarized in the following characteristics:
Because we articulate our union action around the assemblies, we strengthen the unity of workers, debating issues, making decisions, practicing unionism alive very near the teachers.
Because, only from this autonomy, we can develop our trade union activities in a deeply independent way. The only logic work comes from what teachers mark.
Because we are workers in education but our demands are not a simple union defense of the profession. We participate with other active workers in the conquest of a fair, united, non-sexist society, we fight for the environmental conservation and peace.
Because we are a movement of teachers that look forward to setting up a unitary alternative in education from a democratic and pluralistic approach, which focus a particular emphasis on achieving unity of action points with other class unions and progressive organizations.
As we assume the reality of different nationalities and regions of the state.
We want and defend MORE AND BETTER PUBLIC EDUCATION. We consider EDUCATION AS A PUBLIC SERVICE and a fundamental source of social justice.
We propose and defend IMPROVEMENTS IN THE WORKING CONDITIONS OF TEACHERS AND TEACHER WORK DIGNIFICATION.
WE NEGOTIATE FIRMLY as a representation of teachers, never back to them.
We meet in asambleas and support pluralism and democratic participation of workers in making decision.
In STERM, MEMBERS DECIDE.
We are AUTONOMOUS AND INDEPENDENT, we have not a dependence on grants or easements policies.
We belong to the Confederation of STEs so we share the reality of the other Communities in Spain. Our statewide federation is useful as a reference and as an active presence at the State educational administration.
We are a working class union: we are workers and employees and we firmly believe that through our union action, beyond the proper trade union, we could try to improve many aspects of our social life.
We have participated in the creation of the STES Federation along with fellows and colleagues from other employment sectors, going into an alternative model, assembly-and demanding in our region.
We strive for a more just and fraternal society, which respects the environment and live in peace, resolving conflicts peacefully. We want a society where gender discrimination disappears and where women and men have equal opportunities. We support measures which are beneficial in the correction of inequalities.
We believe in co-education as the primary means to achieve equality between men and women, a co-education that does that make gender violence to be away and achieve a non-sexist society.
